Day 25: Roses

It is partly cloudy this morning and cool on the patio. We don’t have much planned, as we have decided not to visit Barcelona today. The forecast says it is likely to rain there. We are not motivated to go to the beach as it is cloudy. We sit around thinking how we will plan our visit to Barcelona. It is a big city with long walks between attractions. Several people have warned us about pick-pockets. And I expect it to be crowded by cruise ships. My interest is waning.

The more I read about it, the more it seems overwhelming. We discuss it and decide we will make Sagrada Familia our objective and let the rest of the chips fall where they may. We try to buy Monday tickets for Sagarada Familia on line, and find they are not available. We will have to go on Tuesday. That’s okay as the weather will be good in Barcelona then.

We go to Roses for lunch and find getting around difficult on the town streets. It takes awhile to get to a cafe overlooking the water. Our lunch is mediocre. Ana has rice and meatballs and I get a hamburger medium rare. When it comes it is thick and raw in the middle; I don’t mean rare. I don’t eat the middle. The view of the bay is good enough, but a wandering troup of acrobats sets up shop in our view and plays loud music in our face while we eat. They are talented, but this intrusion annoys me. I am not interested in giving them anything for their efforts. I don’t like street acts or musicians who push themselves on you. When they play quietly to the side, they can be delightful and deserve support. I often by records or leave them some coins. But conversely, I hate it when they interrupt your day behaving like you asked them to stop.

It is late afternoon and we go to an open grocery and buy pork chops; we will eat in again tonight. I am tired of restaurants and we have salad and cheese to use up. We rest for awhile and then head for a trail I want to explore near us in a National Park, Parc Natural Del Cap de Creus. It is just over the hill at the end of the road we are on. The sky is still overcast, but dry ; and we hike for an hour along the sea, walking 50 feet above the rocky coves below.  It is a gorgeous walk and not to difficult on well maintained trails. I tease Ana that we should continue on the trail to Cadequez and take the train back. Of course, there is no train and it would be dark long before we get there. She is not amused; she often takes me for serious when I am not.

We have a nice walk and are ready for our pork chops. We watch some CNN international news and see exactly how much they like there soccer here. No mention of the NFL even though it is Sunday.
